This year I have been working with the NCL MOOC team to build the University’s 3rd MOOC which will launch on the 30th March 2015, The Enterprise Shed: Making Ideas Happen.
If you haven’t heard about MOOCs yet, MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course and it is exactly that. Anyone, from anywhere in the world can access a MOOC for free online, with no limit on attendance. Newcastle University has already launched 2 MOOCs via the FutureLearn platform, Hadrian’s Wall: Life on the Roman Frontier and Ageing Well: Falls and now it is time for the entrepreneurs.
Do you find there is a place where you do your best thinking? A workshop, a park bench, on a run, or even a shed? This course aims to recreate that atmosphere. It is not just about thinking, but also doing, and aims to provide participants with the skills and confidence to turn their ideas into action to create change and solve problems in their own world.
We have been busy working on building the MOOC over the past few months, but it has been a lot of fun. We have met a whole bunch of thinkers and doers, hearing their stories and how their ideas have changed their lives: some are just starting out, making things and playing around with ideas; and some are more experienced entrepreneurs. We have been interviewing and filming in lots of different places where people do their best thinking and creating – workshops, labs, factories, snugs, and on the beach…..
We are now busy putting our trailer together, which includes an animation of Newcastle University and local landmarks. The Enterprise Shed opens for registration on Monday 12th January 2015 and you will be able to see more then, but for now here is a sneak peak at the crew working on the trailer…
If you would like to unlock and explore your ideas, all you have to do is find a computer and register on FutureLearn.
Keep posted to find out more about the making of the MOOC as we lead up to its launch on the 30th March 2015.
